Proposed Service Standards

The Postal Service intends to implement service standard changes to support Delivering for America network changes.  Implementation will be in two phases to facilitate effective operational execution: the first phase started on April 1 and the second is planned for July 1. We intend to continue providing service standard data files for customer use to determine the number of days in transit. The technical documentation provided here will outline the future file layouts to assist customers in preparing their systems for these changes. The preliminary datasets aligned to the July 1 changes will be posted in the coming weeks.

Description

The Service Standard data is available to customers via downloadable files and API to incorporate it into their systems. To minimize customer impact, we provide downloadable files in the same manner as today – base standards by 3-digit origin, 3-digit destination, product and service standards in number of days with a 5-digit by 5-digit supplemental file.  We also provide new file formats, by product, that combine the base and supplemental standards data into a single file.  There will be 2 variations of this file format, a full 5-digit by 5-digit layout and a combined 3-digit and 5-digit layout.  For customers seeking real-time access to this information, we also provide an API that will enable customers to query our system using a single 5-digit pair and product (or all products) and receive the number of day standard as a response.
